I have surgery scheduled next week, should I consider Vivitrol?
- No. Since Vivitrol is a slow release Naltrexone which blocks your pain receptors, your surgeon may find it difficult to help you with adequate pain control. I would rather recommend you to consider oral naltrexone and stop it 2-3 days prior to the surgery. Once you’re done with surgery and the pain is gone, you can consider Vivitrol. Again, this is an issue that you and your treatment provider should discuss prior to making a decision on Vivitrol use while awaiting an elective surgery.
